Amazon Flex Review

The post Amazon Flex Review appeared first on Millennial Money.

If you want to make good money in the gig economy, you have to be willing to take on different types of roles. The more clients and gigs, the better. Working as an Amazon Flex driver is a great way to earn money as an independent contractor or gig worker — especially if you combine it with other side hustles.

Amazon Flex provides a fast, easy way to make money delivering packages around your local community. By far, the biggest perk is the freedom you get to take on other types of work when you’re not behind the wheel delivering items.

If you’re thinking about driving for Amazon Flex, here’s a breakdown of how it works.

What is Amazon Flex?

Amazon Flex is a small but growing on-demand shopping service. Become a driver for Amazon Flex, and you deliver packages to customers on behalf of Amazon using your vehicle.

You’ll work as an independent contractor, making deliveries on your own time. You can set your schedule, and from the looks of it, you’ll probably have a lot of packages to deliver if you’re up for the challenge.

How Does Amazon Flex Work?

Here’s a quick breakdown of how the service operates:

1. Reserve a 3-6 hour block

First, complete a brief registration process and open the app. Mark yourself as available to start seeing opportunities in your area.

Next, search for available delivery blocks in your region. Amazon shows how much you can make before a trip and how long the block should take to complete.

When you find an order you like, select it and proceed.

2. Make deliveries

After you schedule your delivery block, Amazon gives you a pickup location and lets you know when packages are available for delivery. You’ll deliver a mix of regular Amazon packages and Prime Now items.

Pick up the items, and use the Amazon Flex app to navigate to your destination.

Deliver the package to the address, and move on to the next order.

It’s that easy.

3. Get paid

Amazon credits your account immediately after completing an order. The app pays through direct deposit twice weekly — which is great, since you don’t have to wait forever to get paid.

As an added bonus, you can track your payments within the earnings section of the Flex app, giving you more control over your finances.

Amazon Flex Features

User-friendly App

When relying on an app for income, you want to make sure it’s easy to use and works the way it’s supposed to.

With the backing of Amazon, you shouldn’t expect any performance issues. You’ll have the full power, functionality, and support that comes with any Amazon service.

The Flex app is user-friendly, highly reliable, and supported by Amazon’s expert customer service team. If this sounds interesting to you, give it a whirl! What do you have to lose?

Rewards Program

Amazon Flex offers a rewards program for drivers. Examples include preferred scheduling, thousands of discounts, and tools for assisting with taxes and insurance.

You can earn points by making deliveries and completing blocks. Even better, you can unlock more lucrative rewards as you go along.

Amazon calculates points using a rating system that runs from fair (1 point per delivery), great, (2 points), and fantastic (3 points). You can earn up to 30 points per block.

Below is a breakdown of Amazon’s reward levels.

  • 1: 1 point
  • 2: 650 points
  • 3: 3,000 points
  • 4: 6,500 points

Keep in mind that points run in three-month earning periods and reset. If you want to keep earning rewards, you have to keep driving.

Relaxed Atmosphere

Amazon Flex doesn’t enforce tons of rules. So, if you decide to take the gig, you can customize it to your liking.

For example, you can ride with passengers if you want. Just keep in mind that this could create insurance complications.

You can also dress the way you want, within reason. If you feel like wearing cowboy boots and a t-shirt to work, you can. You don’t have to wear a uniform, shave, or wear a tie.

Best of all, you can control what you put on the radio. So while you drive, you can pop on some financial podcasts and learn some new strategies for managing money.

This may seem like a small thing, but it’s a taste of what you’ll experience with financial freedom. When you work for yourself, nobody can tell you what to listen to on the radio or how to dress when you show up to the job.

After getting a small taste of this kind of freedom, you’ll find it hard to go back to a desk job ever again. Take my word for it.

How to Get Started

Signing up for Amazon Flex shouldn’t be a painful process. Should you decide to move forward, here are the steps to follow:

1. Make sure Amazon Flex is available

Unfortunately, Amazon Flex has a limited footprint right now.  While delivery apps like Uber Eats and DoorDash have thousands of locations, Amazon Flex is only available in roughly 50 cities.

You can find Amazon Flex in cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Portland, Houston, Austin, San Francisco, Indianapolis, Kansas City, Sacramento, San Diego, Phoenix, Dallas, Atlanta, and Denver.

Some locations are a bit puzzling. For example, The service isn’t currently available in New York City but it operates in nearby White Plains and Yonkers. So if you live in New York, you’ll have to venture out past the city limits to drive for Flex. And in Massachusetts, the service is available in Worcester but not Boston.

Things that make you scratch your head, right?

Before moving forward, make sure that Amazon Flex is available in your area. If it isn’t, you can still download the app and let Amazon know that you’re interested. The company may contact you when an opportunity arises in the future.

2. Meet the age requirement

To use Amazon Flex, you have to be at least 21.

If you don’t meet the age requirement, there are always companies like Postmates, DoorDash, and Uber Eats that hire 18-year-old drivers.

3. Pass a background check

Amazon Flex requires submitting a background check when you sign up for the service.

Agree to the background check, wait three to five days for the results to come back, and you could be off to the races before you know it.

4. Have a valid driver’s license

Good news: You don’t need a commercial license to use Amazon Flex. A regular driver’s license will suffice.

You will, however, need to provide a copy of your Social Security number for tax purposes.

5. Own a vehicle

Amazon Flex isn’t picky about the type of car you drive. For most deliveries, a four-door midsize sedan or larger vehicle should do the trick.

In other words, there’s no need to buy a van or pickup truck.

And get this: It’s also okay to drive a beater. No, really.

You don’t need a new car or even a presentable one. If your car looks like it just escaped from the junkyard, you’re fine.

Just make sure it can actually get from point A to point B during delivery without breaking down, causing a major accident, or leaking oil on someone’s street. Customers will complain about oil spills, and that won’t bode well for you.

To that point, driving for a service like Amazon Flex puts a lot of wear and tear on a vehicle. It’s a good idea to bring in your car for periodic tune-ups so that it stays in working order. Preventative maintenance goes a long way in this line of work.

6. Have an iPhone or Android

Amazon Flex works with both Apple and Android devices. Just make sure your phone is functional and can support the Flex app and you should be good to go.

Amazon Flex has specific Android requirements. At present, it requires version 6.0 or higher, at least 2 GB of RAM, and a working camera with flash.

7. Check your insurance

Amazon provides partners in states other than New York with the Amazon Commercial Auto Insurance Policy.

There is no cost for this service. It includes uninsured motorist and underinsured motorist coverage, auto liability coverage, and contingent comprehensive and collision coverage.

It’s also a good idea to call your insurance company and make sure you have the right policy in place.

This is especially important if you switched to a lower mileage insurance plan to save money while working at home during the pandemic.

When you drive for Flex, you’re going to put a lot of miles on your car. As such, it’s important to make sure your plan is up to date.

Promotions

Amazon Flex debit card

Amazon offers the Flex debit card for drivers.

This card provides 6% cashback on all fuel purchases and 2% cashback on Whole Foods and Amzon.com purchases. You can also get 1% cashback on all other purchases. Cowabunga!

Discounts

Amazon partners with Stride for limited benefits. This partnership provides discounts on a range of items — including restaurants, auto repairs, entertainment, and more.

You can access discounts by driving for Amazon and racking up points.

Security

Generally speaking, there’s nothing to worry about from a security standpoint with the Amazon Flex app.

It’s part of the Amazon ecosystem, which means you’ll benefit from the world’s most cutting-edge security services.

One thing to note is that Amazon will ask you to take a selfie from time to time with your phone to verify your identity. Amazon uses this biometric information for fraud identification and investigation purposes.

According to Amazon, the company deletes selfies after 30 days.

Don’t worry, it makes me a bit uneasy, too. But if you want to drive for Amazon Flex, you don’t really have a choice. This is the world we live in now.

Customer Support

Run into a problem during a delivery? You’re not alone. Flex offers customer support between the hours of 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

Flex drivers can reach Amazon agents over the phone at 888-281-6906. Email support is also available at amazonflex-support@amazon.com.

This level of service is right on par with what you’ll find with most other delivery apps.

Tips for Maximizing the Profits

Minimize taxes

All Amazon Flex workers are independent contractors. This means you’ll be fully responsible for paying taxes on any income you generate from the company.

That being the case, it’s a good idea to work with a tax advisor so that you don’t fall behind on your tax obligations.

You may also want to consider setting up estimated taxes so you can pay quarterly and avoid a massive backlog during tax season.

Hustle

Your success with Amazon Flex depends on how many packages you deliver. Keep the app open and drive whenever you can.

If this is a side hustle, then drive during nights, weekends, and possibly even your lunch hour. If you’re trying to become financially independent, slacking isn’t allowed.

Try to look at Amazon packages as money sitting on the table. If you don’t deliver them, someone else will, and an opportunity to make money will disappear.

To maximize your chances of success, stay hungry and agree to as many deliveries as you can stomach.

Use multiple apps

When it boils down to it, there are many different delivery services on the market to explore, and you can make money delivering everything from food to groceries to household items.

When you head out to deliver items, scan through your apps first and go to work for the company offering the highest pay and the most opportunities at that time.

If one app has no availability, open up another app. Never settle for a couple of bucks when you know you can make more.

Consider other side hustles

Amazon Flex is a great service. But let’s face it: When you’re driving for Flex, it can be hard to make ends meet — especially if you’re doing it full-time.

Consider doing other side hustles, too. For example, you can walk dogs, freelance write, or take surveys with Swagbucks when you don’t have any deliveries to make.

In this day and age, it’s never been easier to make money on the internet. You just have to be determined to make it happen.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Make your own schedule
  • Use your own vehicle
  • Decent hourly rate of $18 to $25
  • Helpful rewards program
  • Direct deposit

Cons

  • Limited access
  • Rewards points expire
  • No job security
  • You have to pay for gas and maintenance

Alternatives to Amazon Flex

Want to make some extra money? Of course you do! Consider adding some of the following apps to your lineup to supercharge your delivery business.

Instacart

Instacart is a bit more involved than Amazon Flex. Using this service, you can make money shopping for groceries and delivering them to consumers in your area.

Instacart is active in more than 2,400 locations across the U.S. You can earn about $20 per hour on average, including tips.

Shipt

Shipt is a bit like Instacart. It’s a leading grocery delivery app with nationwide service that’s backed by a retailer you might have heard of called Target.

Shipt shoppers can earn $16 to $22 per hour delivering groceries to customers.

Grubhub

Grubhub is one of the most popular food delivery services on the market. If you’re looking to deliver food, this is a top option.

The company works with more than 300,000 restaurants across more than 4,000 U.S. cities. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, this could be a good app to explore.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do Amazon Flex delivery drivers make during the week?

It largely depends on the number of packages you deliver and your location. Most drivers should be able to bring in anywhere from $500 to $1,000 or more during a good week.

One issue to keep in mind is that Amazon Flex can be very competitive — especially during the holidays. So, it’s not always the most reliable source of income.

That being the case, it’s important to have more irons in the fire. Whatever you do, don’t become completely dependent on Amazon Flex.

Is Amazon Flex legit?

Working for Amazon Flex comes with its share of challenges. That said, the company is definitely legit. Look at Amazon Flex on Glassdoor, and you’ll see a four-star rating.

Amazon Flex can make a decent part-time job or even a full-time job if you hustle enough.

Is Amazon Flex a good employer?

Amazon gets a reputation for being a difficult employer. For example, warehouse workers have grueling jobs, with long hours and low wages.

Amazon Flex is a bit different. With Flex, you get access to a flexible schedule and slightly better working conditions. As long as you can make hour deliveries and handle packages carefully, you shouldn’t have much of a problem or face a lot of pressure.

The main challenge that Amazon Flex workers face is the lack of support from the company. It’s important not to mistake rewards for benefits. You won’t get access to medical coverage, dental care, or a 401(k). And there is virtually no job security. This is an on-demand job through and through.

Is Amazon Flex Worth It?

Make no mistake about it: financial freedom is within your grasp.

People often ask me how this is even possible. I’ll be honest: It takes work and lots of it. Still, I and many other Millennial Money readers have achieved it, and there’s no reason you can’t do the same. You just have to set goals, make a plan, and work for it.

If you decide to pursue this opportunity, just make sure to carefully track expenses since gas, insurance, and car maintenance costs will add up. You’ll also have to account for taxes.

I’ve found the easiest way to make sure you’re good with taxes is by maintaining a spreadsheet that tracks how much money is flowing out and in each month.

Above all else, remember this: You won’t be working directly for Amazon. You’ll be a contractor, which enables you to pursue other opportunities outside Amazon.

Keep a full lineup of other driving apps, and use them to your advantage. Never forget you aren’t tied to Amazon Flex in any way.

The more services you drive for and the harder you work, the more money you’ll make. That’s the secret to accelerating your journey to long-term financial independence.

There’s only one question left: What are you waiting for? Get out there and sprint towards financial freedom. I’ll see you at the finish line.

21 Ways to Make Money with a Laptop

The post 21 Ways to Make Money with a Laptop appeared first on Millennial Money.

It used to be that you needed to fully commit to a part-time job to make extra cash. Now, you can make money with a laptop and good WIFI.

Making money online with your laptop has never been easier. Between freelancing, dropshipping, and even investing, there are countless ways to maximize your income without ever leaving the comfort of your home.

No matter your financial goals or skillset, there is a way for you to make money with a laptop.

21 Ways to Make Money With Your Laptop

Here are 21 great ways to earn extra money with your laptop:

  1. Take Surveys Online
  2. Start Freelancing
  3. Become a Virtual Assistant
  4. Invest in Real Estate
  5. Invest in Stocks
  6. Start Tutoring Online
  7. Start Dropshipping
  8. Try Print-on-Demand
  9. Start a YouTube Channel
  10. Become an Influencer
  11. Write an E-book
  12. Create a Blog
  13. Publish an Online Course
  14. Build an App
  15. Do Translation Work
  16. Sell Photography
  17. Sell Your Clothes
  18. Create an Etsy Shop
  19. Build Websites
  20. Start a Podcast
  21. Become a Social Media Manager

1. Take Online Surveys

Maybe you’re not interested in starting a whole new side gig and are only interested in earning enough for a free Starbucks gift card now and again. In that case, you should try taking surveys online through get paid to (GPT) sites!

GPT sites like MyPoints, Swagbucks and Survey Junkie are a great way to earn extra dough with minimal effort.

GPT sites are marketing research companies that partner with brands to source valuable consumer insights about new products or marketing campaigns.

They gather this information by asking users to take online surveys or test products at home. You will be rewarded through points, cash, or gift cards in exchange for your time.

2. Start Freelancing

Freelancing is by far the most popular way to make money with your laptop. As more businesses become open to hiring contractors to complete tasks, more freelancers are needed to fill in the gap.

The best part about freelancing is that you can do it as much or as little as you’d like. You can choose to make it a full-time position or just a simple side hustle.

Freelancers exist in nearly every industry. Most people associate freelancers with freelance writing, graphic designers, or developers, but they can also be administrative assistants, tutors, or customer service representatives. No matter your skill set, there is probably a freelance role for you to earn extra money.

The trick to becoming a freelancer is building a portfolio and landing your first client. A portfolio of work is essential because it shows potential clients that you have experience and can help them immediately.

It also allows them to see if your work matches their needs. A portfolio can be as elaborate as a professional website or as simple as a Google drive folder. Whatever it is, make sure that your future clients can easily access and navigate it.

As far as landing your first client goes, there are countless job boards that you can use to advertise your services and apply for freelance jobs. For example, websites like Upwork, Fiverr, Steady, FlexJobs, and LinkedIn are among the most popular for finding and landing freelance positions.

Remember that freelancing is, more than anything, a numbers game. You’ll need to put out a lot of applications before you land your first client, but the hard work will pay off in the end.

3. Become a Virtual Assistant

The demand for virtual assistants has skyrocketed over the past few years as more and more people are building online businesses.

Everyone from influencers to digital entrepreneurs to small businesses is looking for someone to help them tackle tasks like bookkeeping, customer service, and posting on social media. That’s where virtual assistants come in.

As a virtual assistant, you will help other businesses by doing tasks that are too time-consuming or tedious for the business owner to complete. This can include replying to DM’s, answering customer service emails, building a content calendar for socials, bookkeeping, data entry, overseeing personal finance, updating calendars, writing blog posts, monitoring SEO content, and more.

Ultimately, the services you offer as a virtual assistant are up to you. Whatever you feel you can do well is what you can market to potential clients.

There are several ways that you can find jobs as a virtual assistant. You can look up virtual assistant jobs on sites like FlexJobs, LinkedIn, or Upwork.

You can also reach out to businesses directly and offer your services. If you choose to cold pitch to clients, it’s best to stick to companies in a specific niche, like sports or beauty. This way, you can tailor your marketing to those customers and build a portfolio to showcase to other clients in that niche.

4. Invest in Real Estate

Investing in real estate is an excellent way to earn money online if you want to earn passive income rather than start a full-blown business.

The great thing about investing in real estate nowadays is that you don’t need $15,000 to start. Like buying stocks, you can start investing with as little as $10 and move your way up.

To get started, download a real estate investment app like Fundrise or Roofstock. These apps let you browse and choose investment opportunities based on what you have to invest.

Unlike side hustles, investments require more patience, so give the investment some time to mature to maximize your return.

5. Invest in Stocks

If you’re looking for a passive way to make money online, look no further than investing in stocks.

Trading stocks is one of the most popular ways to earn money online because it makes money in your sleep. A well-diversified stock portfolio can have an average yield of 7% to 10% annually.

This may not seem like a lot, but those earnings will compound over time and earn you money throughout your life if you’re smart about your investments.

If you’re new to trading stocks online, we recommend starting with an online broker like M1Finance, Acorns, or Robinhood. These platforms are great for beginners and allow you to manage your investments through an app.

6. Start Tutoring Online

If you’re a teacher looking for extra ways to make money – or just someone who can teach others – you should consider tutoring students online.

The best part about online tutoring is that you aren’t limited to school districts in your area. You can tutor students across the country who need help in particular subjects. Sciences and math are the most in demand, but plenty of students need help in social sciences, history, and languages.

Like translation work, you need to be able to show that you’re qualified to teach the subject you are offering online tutoring services for. If you’re a student, you’ll need to show that you passed the course with flying colors on your transcript or through a letter of recommendation from your professor.

If you are an expert, you can show your degree or proof that you have experience in the area. This will build credibility and justify the price point at which you’re offering your services.

The best sites to find tutoring jobs online are Tutor.com, Skooli, TutorMe, Varsity Tutors, TakeLessons, Chegg, and more. There are plenty of resources to help you find tutoring jobs that fit your schedule and expertise.

7. Start DropShipping

Dropshipping is often seen as a get-rich-quick scheme, meaning many people write it off as a scam. However, dropshipping is a legitimate business model that can earn you a ton of cash if you invest the time and energy.

First things first: what is dropshipping? Dropshipping is an order fulfillment business model in which the seller doesn’t stock or store the merchandise. Instead, they work with an order fulfillment company that holds the inventory and fulfills orders on behalf of the dropshipper.

You may be wondering what kind of work goes into becoming a dropshipper. Like any e-commerce store, you’ll need to set up a domain, market your products, maintain a social media presence, communicate with customers, etc. You will essentially be running a startup as a dropshipper, so be prepared for that level of commitment.

As a dropshipper, you are essentially curating products in an online store that will appeal to certain people. It requires much more work than listing a product online and waiting for sales to rack up.

Dropshippers are business owners in their own right. If done correctly, dropshipping can attract a client base that loves the products you list and keeps coming back to buy what you’re selling!

8. Try Print-On-Demand

Print-on-demand is another popular way to make money, especially if you have a knack for graphic design. Print-on-demand (POD) is a business model like dropshipping in that you don’t store inventory for your business or ship orders out. The difference between POD and dropshipping is that you design the products you sell.

If you choose to open a print-on-demand shop, you’ll be selling items that are easy to print on, such as mugs, tote bags, and t-shirts. Customers will buy your products if they like the design or graphic printed on the product. From there, your POD partner company will print the graphic on the product and ship it out to the customer.

Print-on-demand is excellent for people that like to draw or design graphics and want to get into selling digital products. It lets you flex your creative muscles without going through the trouble of storing and shipping products.

Plus, opening a print-on-demand Etsy shop or online store is very easy, so you can start selling products immediately.

9. Start a YouTube Channel

It’s no secret that having a popular YouTube channel can help you hit the jackpot. Famous YouTubers like Jake Paul, Emma Chamberlain, and Jenna Marbles have earned a considerable amount of money and found bonafide fame – all by sharing their interests and personalities on their YouTube channel.

Building a popular YouTube channel begins by focusing on a single niche that you’re passionate about. This will help you build a loyal audience that will tune into your channel to engage in your passion alongside you.

This can be anything from fashion to beauty to video games to travel. No matter the topic, there is almost certainly an audience that will engage with your YouTube videos.

To turn your channel into a money-making machine, it’s not enough to simply upload YouTube videos. You need to monetize your content. Once you hit 1,000 subscribers, you will be able to monetize your channel with YouTube ads.

You can also take it further and partner with brands to make sponsored content. Brands will pay you to make YouTube videos giving tutorials on how to use their products or promote their services, and you get paid for your efforts. Some brands will even allow you to earn a commission through affiliated sales.

This can skyrocket your earnings through your channel and push you into actual YouTuber territory.

10. Become an Influencer

Being an influencer is one of the best ways to turn your social media channels into income streams. Like YouTubers, influencers can range from massive stars to small-scale pages. You don’t need one million followers to earn money off your social media content. You can start earning from as little as 5k followers and move up from there.

Becoming an influencer begins with building a healthy following on social media. The top platforms to get started are YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. Many influencers have found success through TikTok specifically because of how the algorithm promotes your content. If you create niched content consistently, you’ll have a better chance of getting in front of a receptive audience.

Once you have found an audience that likes your content, you can start monetizing your content. There are tons of ways that you can flip your content into a tool to help you earn side income.

You can partner with brands for sponsored posts, add affiliate marketing links to your bio or posts, sell ads on your YouTube or podcast, create and sell merch, open an online store, and much more. The possibilities are endless for earning money as an influencer.

You just have to get creative and focus on building a personal brand that draws people to your page.

11. Write an E-Book

Perhaps you prefer to be creative behind the scenes than on display. In that case, there are plenty of creative avenues that you can use to make money with your laptop. Writing and publishing an e-book is a great way to pursue your dreams of authorship and create a passive income stream all at once.

Publishing an e-book has never been easier. With Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, you can write, format, design, publish, and promote your e-book from your laptop. There are several directions you can go when publishing an e-book. You can either publish something you wrote as a passion project, or you can research keywords based on popular searches and write an e-book based on your findings.

The trick to making money off an e-book is marketing it. You shouldn’t expect people to start buying your book as soon as you hit ‘publish.’ You need to generate some buzz and convince people that your book will entertain them, help them, or educate them.

One tactic that works well for e-book authors is a ‘review for review’ strategy. Freelancers on sites like Upwork and Fiverr need 5-star reviews to sell their services. E-book authors often post ‘jobs’ on these sites promising to give them a 5-star review on their profile in exchange for downloading and rating their e-book on Amazon.

This ‘quid pro quo’ strategy can help you accrue excellent ratings in a short amount of time while helping others make money with their laptop. Everybody wins.

12. Create a Blog

Blogging is one of the most tried-and-true ways to make money with your laptop. There are countless ways to make money with a blog, like YouTubing and influencing. If you are a fashion blogger, you can use affiliate marketing links to earn a side income or start your own fashion line.

If you’re a food blogger, you can write a cookbook with your most beloved recipes. You can also stick to the classic methods of content monetization if you’re blogging as a hobby instead of a full-time job. No matter what, blogging is a goldmine for people who have a passion that they want to share online.

Before you begin building your website, you need to pick a niche for your blog. Are you super into travel and the outdoors? Start an adventure blog. Are you a makeup lover? Try your hand at beauty blogging. Your niche should be broad enough that you can cover many topics but not so broad that it has no focus. Like YouTube, you want to cultivate a following that all shares a particular interest.

Monetizing your blog works similarly to monetizing a YouTube page. You can place advertisements throughout your landing pages (careful not to overdo it), add affiliate marketing links in your posts (be sure to add a disclaimer), and partner with brands to create collaboration content. The larger your audience, the more successful your monetization efforts will be.

13. Publish an Online Course

Are you an expert in a particular field people want to learn about? You can make money on your laptop by publishing an online course! Online courses are a digital product that allows you to share your knowledge on a subject and create a passive income stream. Some people earn as much as $5,000 per month through their online courses.

Online courses have been around for a while, but they took off during the pandemic when people couldn’t attend classes and workshops in person. What separates the good from the bad is your provable expertise in the subject, the depth and relevance of the course, and your ability to teach others.

To learn more about how to make your online course stand out, check out other online courses in your subject. What do people have to say about the instructor and the course? Is there a topic they wanted to learn more about that wasn’t covered? Taking inspiration from others’ feedback can give you valuable information about how to build a high-quality online course.

Once you build your online course, you’ll need to find a way to sell it to others. Selling your course on a platform like Udemy is easy and doesn’t require much promotion. You can basically upload it and forget about it.

If your online course requires a more hands-on approach, you can sell your course as a coaching experience. This means you can include your one-on-one attention as a value add when you market your course.

14. Build an App

Building an app is a great way to test your technical knowledge and make a passive income stream if you lean more on the techy side than the creative side. A good app will take time to conceptualize and develop, but some people have turned their techy side projects into a full-time job. Building an app that everyone will love takes time and effort, but it’s possible.

If you don’t know how to develop an app on your own, you might feel a bit discouraged by this money-making opportunity. However, you can always hire someone with programming knowledge to develop the app for you. All you need to do is approach a developer through sites like Toptal or Upwork with your app idea, the target audience, and the brand image. From there, your developer will take care of this on the programming side.

Once your app is finished, you can add it to Google Play and the App Store for people to download. You may think that the best way to earn money is with a paid app, but free apps can actually have more earning potential. This is because you can add advertisements and premium features to help people upgrade their experience. You’ll be able to upsell to users once they’ve downloaded the app, boosting the amount you can earn dramatically.

15. Do Translation Work

Do you speak another language in addition to English? Then you should look into doing translation work. Translation is a niche that only bilingual or multilingual people can compete in, meaning there is less competition than in other money-making opportunities.

To get a job as a translator, you’ll need to prove that you’re entirely fluent in another language. Do you have a language degree or experience translating text? Be sure to highlight this in a resume or cover letter. Most translation companies will require you to take a test without using translation tools before you’re accepted for the job.

Curious about where to look for a translation gig? There are plenty of online agencies that are constantly looking for new translators. Some popular sites for online translation work are Gengo, OneHourTranslation.com, Unbabel, and ProZ.

You can also search for translation jobs through traditional freelancer platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, and Freelancer.com.

16. Sell Photography

It doesn’t matter if you’re a professional photographer or just like taking pictures as a hobby. You can turn your creative passion into a way to make money online by selling your photography as a digital product.

Every business or advertising agency needs access to quality stock photography. This doesn’t just mean the cheesy stock photos you see online. This includes beautiful nature shots, lifestyle photography, candid photography, and more. These businesses are willing to pay a premium through sites like Shutterstock for the right photo for their needs. If that photo is yours, you can make money when they use it.

Monetizing your photography is as easy as joining sites like Shutterstock, Alamy, or Unsplash as a creator. You can upload your work there and wait for others to purchase the rights to your photography to use in whatever way they see fit. You’ll receive royalty checks whenever someone uses your work, which means you can earn money while doing nothing.

17. Sell Your Clothes

We all have items in our closets that just collect dust. Did you know that you can take those pieces you don’t have any plans to wear again and make money off them instead? Selling clothes online is more common than you think. Sites like ThredUp, Poshmark, eBay, and The RealReal allow you to sell your old clothes in exchange for cash or store credit. This means you can get rid of old clothes to earn money to buy new ones!

Different clothing resale sites have various means of letting you offload old clothes for cash. Sites like Poshmark and Depop act as a marketplace and allow you to post photos of your clothes and sell them to customers directly.

This takes more effort on your part but usually results in higher returns. Other sites like The RealReal and ThredUp allow you to send in your old clothes, and they’ll sell them on your behalf

The returns are usually not as great, but this saves you the effort of selling the items yourself and can clear up space in your closet immediately.

18. Create an Etsy Shop

Are you a crafty person who wants to sell your wares online? Opening an Etsy store is a great way to share your creative soul with the world and make money with your laptop all at once!

Online stores like Esty shops are a great way to make money online, but they also require a lot of work to get up and running. You’ll need to build up an inventory of the products you’re selling, market your store on social media, figure out shipping and packaging, etc.

Despite all this, Etsy shops can be a great source of income, whether a side hustle or a full-time gig. It all depends on how much energy you put into marketing and managing it.

19. Build Websites

Businesses, both big and small, are moving online, and they need high-quality websites to attract and retain customers. If you have knowledge of WordPress, digital marketing, and web design, you may be able to make money by building websites.

A good website is the foundation for a digital business, and companies are willing to pay developers and web designers top dollar to help them build a website that looks good and performs well in search engines. If you have the technical knowledge to assist companies in setting up a good web presence, this is an excellent way to make good money from anywhere.

You’ll need to purchase a domain name to set up your own website that shows off your credentials and portfolio. Then, just like freelancing, you’ll need to pitch your services to potential clients. If you have minimal experience, you’ll need to start small and work for less to build a proper portfolio. Once you can prove that you have experience building excellent websites, you can shoot bigger and up your rates.

20. Start a Podcast

It feels like everyone is starting a podcast these days, and for good reason. Podcasts are an excellent way to earn passive income in ad revenue and affiliate sales.

Just like starting a YouTube channel, the first step in creating a podcast is choosing a niche or genre. It’s helpful to think about your passions and where your podcast would fit into the overall market. Are you passionate about beauty? True crime? Celebrity gossip? When choosing a topic for your podcast, it’s helpful to think of a topic that is broad but still niche enough that it appeals to a particular group.

Once your podcast has enough listeners, you can start approaching brands to purchase advertisement time. Some brands may even give you an affiliate code to earn commission on purchases. A successful podcast begins with the content, so focus on creating good episodes, and the money will follow.

21. Become a Social Media Manager

Businesses understand that most people look to social media to tell them what to buy. They also understand that having a solid social media presence is essential for any brand worth its weight.

If you have a knack for social media and are interested in helping brands manage their online presence, you should consider becoming a social media manager.

As the name implies, social media managers help companies manage their social media accounts. This can be anything from generating graphics and video content for posting, creating story content, replying to DMs and comments, running Instagram and Facebook ads, and more.

You’ll need to show potential customers you have experience managing professional social media accounts (your personal account probably won’t cut it.) If you don’t have any experience, start small and work your way up. Everyone starts somewhere.

Can You Live on $30 Dollars an Hour?

The post Can You Live on $30 Dollars an Hour? appeared first on Millennial Money.

Thirty dollars an hour may not sound like a lot to you, but when you calculate it as an annual salary, you’ll see that it’s a livable wage.

Here’s everything you must know about making 30 dollars an hour and how to calculate your income.

$30 Dollars an Hour is How Much a Year?

If you make 30 dollars an hour and work full-time, you’d make $62,400 annually. This assumes you work 40 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, including two weeks of paid vacation.

However, if you don’t get a paid vacation but take the two weeks off, your annual salary would decrease to $60,000 per year.

When determining how much you make per year, it helps to look at the number of days you work per year.

To get more accurate, you can look at the actual number of working days in a year. For example, there are 365 days in a year, but only 250 working days, which equals an even $60,000 per year.

Before Taxes (Full Time)

If you work full-time at 30 dollars an hour, your gross income, or income before taxes, is $62,400 with paid vacation or $60,000 without paid vacation.

Roughly After Taxes (Full Time)

If you earn $62,400 a year, putting all other income aside, you’d be in the 20% tax bracket. This means roughly you’d bring home $49,920 if you work full-time.

How Much is 30 Dollars an Hour Per Day?

If you make 30 dollars an hour and work an eight-hour day, you’d make $240 a day before taxes. However, if you’re in the 20 percent tax bracket, you’d walk away with $192 a day working full-time.

What Does $30/hr Equal Per Week?

If you work full-time, making 30 dollars an hour, you will make $1,200 a week working five days. This is before taxes. After taxes, you’d walk away with $960.

If you work part-time, say 20 hours a week, you’d make $600 before taxes.

How Much is $30 an Hour if Paid Bi-Weekly?

If you get paid bi-weekly, your gross pay will look like $2,400 in gross pay. So after taxes, your take-home pay would be $1,920 for two weeks of full-time work.

What Is 30 Dollars an Hour Per Month?

Finally, it may help to see how much 30 dollars an hour is per month to see if it’s enough money to cover your bills and have disposable income.

If you work full-time, your monthly income of 30 dollars an hour is $5,200. So after taxes, most people would have a check worth $4,160.

Can You Live on 30 Dollars an Hour?

The federal poverty level for individuals in 2022 is $13,590, which is well below the $62,400 you’d earn making 30 dollars an hour. You can live on 30 dollars an hour since it’s $62,400 a year.

The average income per individual in the US is $35,384 per year, but the median income in the US is $64,994, which is right around the 30-dollar-an-hour mark.

Since 30 dollars an hour is above the average income per individual, it’s a livable wage, but it depends on a few factors.

Factors and Considerations

The cost of living contributes to whether 30 dollars an hour is a livable wage. Living on this wage in a high-cost area like New York City can be much more difficult. The average rent in NYC for a one-bedroom apartment is $2,016 monthly. That leaves you with a little over $2,000 after housing costs. This must cover the rest of your bills and living expenses, which isn’t much.

Other factors determining if 30 dollars an hour is a livable wage include whether you have children or other dependents, your debt, and your lifestyle.

If you live an average lifestyle in an area with an average cost of living, 30 dollars an hour works great. Any factors that increase your cost of living, though, could make it harder to live on.

Jobs Paying 30 Dollars an Hour

Many jobs pay more than 30 dollars an hour, and not all require a college degree. Some require licensing or special education but not a 4-year degree.

Of course, having a college degree will increase your chances of making 30 dollars an hour or more at your job. Here are some examples.

  • Accountants make an average hourly salary of $41.66 per hour
  • Fire inspectors make an average hourly salary of $33.56 per hour
  • Real estate agents make an average hourly salary of $41.36 per hour

Side Hustles that Pay $30 an Hour Just Isn’t Enough

You don’t have to get a full-time job that pays at least 30 dollars an hour, try some of these side hustles to supplement your income:

Investing While Making 30 Dollars an Hour

You can (and should) invest while making 30 dollars an hour. Investing as early as possible helps your money grow faster because the earnings compound, allowing you to earn more money without doing anything.

Ideally, you should invest 10% of your monthly income or around $400. However, if you budget well and stick to your budget, you may be able to squeeze more out of your income to invest.

Before You Invest:

Before you invest, though, make sure you have an emergency fund. Ideally, your emergency fund should have three to six months of expenses, but at 30 dollars an hour, that could take a long time.

For now, make sure you at least have a month or two of rent or your mortgage payment in a savings account, but continually add to your savings account, helping it grow.

Other factors to consider when investing are:

  • Your financial goals – What are you investing for?
  • Risk tolerance – How much can you risk without feeling uneasy?
  • Employer match – If you have an employer-sponsored 401K, contribute at least as much as your employer will to get the free employer-match

Buying a House While Making 30 Dollars an Hour

You can buy a house on a $62,400-a-year salary, but it requires careful budgeting. You shouldn’t have excessive debt when applying for a mortgage, especially if you make 30 dollars an hour.

Before You Buy a Home:

I’ve found it’s best if you have a credit score of 680 or higher and your debt-to-income ratio is lower than 43%. This means your debts, including the new mortgage, minimum credit card payments, and any loan payments, don’t exceed 43% of your gross monthly income of $5,200 a month.

It’s important not to overextend yourself when buying a house. If you can’t afford your mortgage, you could face foreclosure, which means losing your house.

Budgeting While Making 30 Dollars an Hour

Budgeting while making 30 dollars an hour is important. But I think it’s important no matter how much money you make. I like the 50/30/20 budget. This budget allows 50 percent of your income for necessary expenses, 30 percent for ‘fun’ or unnecessary expenses, and 20 percent for debt payoff and savings.

Here’s a quick example using $4,160 income per month:

  • Your fixed and necessary expenses like housing, utilities, transportation, basic food and clothing, and healthcare costs. You need these things to live; they shouldn’t exceed $2,080 per month.
  • You have $1,248 a month for unnecessary expenses or wants. These things aren’t crucial to survival but fit your lifestyle.
  • You should use $832 of your income to pay off any high-interest debt and save for retirement or other financial goals.

You don’t have to stick to the 50/30/20 rule. Instead, you can play with the numbers and see what fits your lifestyle best. For example, if you live in a high-cost area, you may need more than 50 percent of your income for housing expenses. If that’s the case, adjust your spending in other areas, decreasing your lifestyle to afford the cost of living.

Tips to Live Within Your Means

Any amount of income requires you to live within your means. So if you make 30 dollars an hour, here are a few ways to stay within your budget.

  • Don’t use credit as an extension of your income
  • Create a budget and follow it
  • Learn to save so you can splurge on items you want
  • Learn to shop sales, meal plan, and be frugal with your meals
  • Find ways to cut expenses, such as finding cheaper insurance, internet, or cable services

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 30 Dollars an Hour a Good Wage?

30 dollars an hour can be a good wage if you don’t live in a high-cost area and you’re single. However, if you’re married, have kids, or live in a high-cost area, you might need an additional income from your spouse or to supplement with a side hustle.

What if I Don’t Have PTO? How Will This Affect My Income?

If you don’t have paid time off, you’ll likely work 80 hours less per year, which reduces your income by $2,400 before taxes.

How Do I Find My Total Number of Working Days?

To find your total number of working days, determine if you get PTO. For example, if you do, and you work 40 hours a week, you work 2,000 hours but get paid for 2,080 hours. But, if you don’t get PTO, you still work 2,000 hours but only get paid for 2,000 hours.

How Do I Calculate My Annual Income?

To calculate your annual income, take 30 dollars an hour (or however much you make) and multiply it by 40 hours. Then, take that number and multiply it by 52 weeks. This is your annual income. If you work part-time, you must know how many hours you work to determine your annual income.

How Do I Calculate My Gross Income?

Your gross income is income before taxes. You multiply your hourly wage by 40 hours and then by 52 weeks. Your take-home pay is your net pay, which is after taxes. Most people making 30 dollars an hour are in the 20 percent tax bracket.
